Sons Eagerly Expect

Living Ready for the Return of Christ

Most men live like history just keeps going.

Career.

Plans.

Retirement.

Comfort.

Someday.

Scripture says history is going somewhere.

Toward a Person.

Toward a King.

Toward a return that will not be subtle.

Believers are repeatedly described as those who eagerly await Christ.

Not casually believe.

Not loosely assume.

Eagerly await.

Expectation Changes Conduct

You live differently when you know someone important is coming.

You prepare.

You prioritize.

You pay attention.

You do not drift.

The early church did not treat the return of Christ as an abstract idea.

It was a present reality shaping daily decisions.

They worked.

Built.

Preached.

Suffered.

Persevered.

With expectancy.

Not panic.

Not speculation.

Clarity.

Many Believe It. Few Live Like It.

It is possible to affirm the doctrine of Christ’s return while organizing life as if nothing ultimate is coming.

Comfort becomes the aim.

Safety becomes the priority.

Distraction becomes the pattern.

But sons who eagerly expect Christ’s return do not live loosely.

They live aligned.

Because expectation exposes what matters.

Petty ambitions lose their shine.

Hidden compromise loses its appeal.

Temporary approval loses its power.

Because the King is coming.

Sons Do Not Just Want Relief — They Want Him

The deepest longing of the Christian life is not escape from difficulty.

It is reunion with Christ.

To see Him.

To be with Him.

To no longer know Him only by faith — but by sight.

To no longer wrestle with distraction.

No longer battle divided desires.

No longer feel the tension of loving Him imperfectly.

To be fully His.

Fully near.

Fully alive in His presence.

Those who eagerly expect His return are not simply hoping circumstances improve.

They are longing for Christ Himself.

Expectancy Is Personal

Jesus is not merely bringing an outcome.

He is bringing Himself.

The One who called you.

The One who saved you.

The One who has been patient with you.

The One who has walked with you through every quiet surrender and every unseen obedience.

The Christian hope is not merely a better situation.

It is closer relationship.

To finally see the One you have trusted.

To finally stand in the presence of the One who never left you.

To finally experience fully what your heart has always known partially.

Sons Eagerly Expect

Not because they hate the world.

Because they love the King.

They love His ways.

They love His voice.

They love His leadership.

They love His mercy.

They love His strength.

They want to be with Him.

And that longing reshapes how they live now.

They do not disengage.

They prepare.

They live faithfully because they know Who they belong to.

They endure because they know Who is coming.

They hope because they know how the story ends.

Christ will return.

And those who belong to Him eagerly expect Him.

A Prayer Sons Can Pray

Lord Jesus,

I want You more than anything this world offers.

More than comfort.

More than recognition.

More than success.

More than ease.

I want to be with You.

Strengthen my desire for You when my heart feels dull.

Keep me from settling for lesser things when You have offered Yourself.

Teach me to live in a way that reflects that my future is with You.

Help me to love what You love.

Help me to long for what is eternal.

Form in me a steady hope that is not shaken by circumstances.

Remind me that every act of obedience is moving me closer to the day I see You face to face.

I do not only want what You give.

I want You.

Come, Lord Jesus.

Amen.
