A Son Is Serious

Let’s be honest:

We live in a world of half-hearted commitments and shallow faith.

Guys who know the language, go to the groups, nod at the right time…

but who never go all in.

Somewhere along the way, we bought the lie that faith is just a vibe.

That church is where we go to feel better.

That Jesus is a consultant, not a King.

But here’s the truth:

A son is serious.

Not angry.

Not uptight.

Not self-righteous.

Serious.

About commitment.

About discipleship.

About obedience.

About the cross.

When Jesus called men to follow Him, He didn’t give them options.

He didn’t say, “Pick which part you like best.”

He said:

“If anyone would come after Me, let him deny himself, take up his cross daily, and follow Me.”

— Luke 9:23

The Bible is not a salad bar.

It’s a box lunch.

You don’t get to pick what you want and leave the rest.

You take the whole thing—or you walk away.

And sons?

Sons take the whole thing.

Because we’re not playing games anymore.

Not looking for loopholes.

Not pretending.

A son says,

“I belong to the Father. So I follow the Son. No turning back.”

You were bought with a price.

You were crucified with Christ.

You’ve been raised with Him into new life.

So you don’t get to carry your ego, your old ways, ...or your excuses.

You carry a cross.

That’s what sons do.

We show up.

We serve.

We sacrifice.

We stay.

We don’t just believe — we follow.

We don’t just agree — we obey.

Because sonship isn’t just a gift.

It’s a calling.

And it’s time to treat it that way.

So if you feel the call, don’t ignore it.

If the Holy Spirit is stirring, don’t delay.

Take up your cross.

Be a man of the Word — all of it.

Walk like a son who knows the cost…

but also knows the worth.

And don’t do it just because the Bible says so—

do it because you’re grateful.

Because you were once an orphan, and now you’ve been adopted.

Because you were once dead, and now you’ve been raised.

Because the Father didn’t just save you—

He claimed you.

He gave you His name.

He made you a son.

So yes — this is serious.

But it’s not heavy with guilt.

It’s full of honor.

It’s the only right response to the grace you’ve been given.

Not to earn anything.

But to say with your life:

“I know who I am.

And I know whose I am.”

So stand up.

Take it seriously.

You’re not just a man trying to get it right.

You’re a son, fully known and fully loved.
