A Room Full of Men, and One Cry for Help
Last night, after I finished speaking on “Your Boy Is Not Toxic: Raising Them to Godly Masculinity,” we opened the floor for questions.
The exchange was strong — real conversations about identity, strength, and raising sons in a world confused about manhood. Then, from the back of the packed room, a man who’d been standing the whole time spoke up.
His voice trembled.
He said he’d been abandoned by his father at 3 years old. That he was losing his faith. That he’d been ready to take his own life. That he was scared — scared of being a bad dad, scared of his own anger, scared that he wasn’t enough.
He was crying out.
So we brought him forward. Some stretched out hands, some laid hands on him — and we prayed. Hard. We prayed like brothers who knew what it means to be at the end of yourself. We asked the Father to meet him in the places of abandonment, fear, and pain.
And then, just like that, he was gone. After we finished praying, the moment kind of ended. He walked back to the rear of the room, and I lost sight of him. We wrapped up shortly after, and a dozen people came forward with questions, wanting to talk, share their own stories.
In the crowd and commotion, I never saw him again.
I wish I had.
But here’s what I want to say — to him, and to every man reading this:
You’re not alone.
We’ve all felt inadequate. We’ve all battled fear and failure. We’ve all carried anger we didn’t understand.
But you don’t have to carry it alone.
You’re not an orphan. You’re not too far gone. You’re not beyond grace.
You are a son. A true son — invited by Jesus to come to the Father, to receive strength, forgiveness, healing, and identity.
I hope you see this. I hope you connected with some brothers yesterday. I hope you know we meant it — we’re with you. And I hope you reach out again. I hope you use the SONSHIP DEVOTIONAL for 29 days and start making your way back to the Father.
Brother, take on the mantle of sonship. Let Jesus take you to the Father. You are not weak for needing help — you are strong and brave for sharing. I SEE YOU - more importantly, YOUR FATHER SEES YOU.
Be strong, Brother.
We’re with you.
Let’s walk this road home to the Father — together.
I remember the joke about your name & I remember your name! I am praying daily for you — by name!
