You Can’t Lead What You Still Worship
“In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord…” – Isaiah 6:1
Every man has an Uzziah.
A person. A dream. A platform.
A success story we worship.
A relationship we can’t let go of.
An image we protect more than our soul.
But leadership doesn’t start with spotlight.
It starts with death.
Until your idol dies, you’ll never see the Lord.
Until your Uzziah is buried, you won’t lead with heaven’s fire.
The Idol You Won’t Call an Idol
King Uzziah was a good king. Strong. Victorious. Respected.
But when he overstepped his role and entered the temple like a priest—God struck him with leprosy. He was never the same.
Isaiah admired him. Maybe even depended on him.
But it wasn’t until Uzziah died that Isaiah saw the Lord.
What’s your Uzziah?
Is it a reputation you’re protecting?
A business you’ve built?
A relationship that holds too much of your heart?
A stage you can’t stop chasing?
If it holds your gaze more than God does…
If it sets your direction more than the Spirit does…
It’s your idol.
And it has to die.
What needs to die, so you can see the Lord?
To get a real vision of His greatness?
Sons Don’t Need Idols
Orphans cling to idols.
Sons release them.
Why?
Because sons already know they’re loved. Chosen. Sent.
They don’t need a platform to feel powerful.
They don’t need applause to feel seen.
They don’t need money to feel secure.
They’ve seen the Lord. That’s enough.
And once you’ve seen Him—you can lead like He does.
Humble. Unshaken. Commissioned.
You Can’t Lead While Worshiping Something Else
A man who hasn’t killed his idols will:
Lead from insecurity
Chase influence, not obedience
Use people to build his name
Build altars to self instead of legacy for others
But a son—
A son who’s had a vision of the real King?
He doesn’t lead to prove himself.
He leads because he’s been undone, made clean, and sent.
“Woe is me, for I am undone…” – Isaiah 6:5
“…your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for…” – Isaiah 6:7
“…Whom shall I send? … Here I am. Send me!” – Isaiah 6:8
Kill It. Burn It. Walk Away.
The idol doesn’t die gently.
You’ve got to kill it.
Smash the image.
Surrender the dream.
Lay the Isaac on the altar.
Let God be God again.
Only then will you be able to say, “Here I am. Send me.”
Only then will you be trusted with people.
Only then will your leadership stop being about you.
Closing Charge:
Leadership begins with death.
And if you want to lead like a son, you must bury every idol that’s still calling the shots in your heart.
It’s time.
Kill your Uzziah.
See the Lord.
Then rise —
A man who leads because he’s seen the King.
